✨ Feat of Manifesting Overachievement

Fabulous FOMO vs. Ugly Comparison Syndrome
Oh sweet wonderful humans! We are currently bombarded with glistening ads, performative social media posts, and shiny stars on stage. How are you feeling? How does your Inner Ego respond? You wouldn’t be the first to wish you had what you don’t, or envy others.
How about this:
Instead of Fear Of Missing Out, let’s reframe the mindset to Feat of Manifesting Overachievement. And even the word overachievement can itch a little, so let’s shimmer that up with the vision of shooting for the moon and landing amongst the stars. Talk about stars, we have so many who graciously illuminate “success” in a beautiful way.
So before you scroll to read a little about these inspiring stars who entered my Relationship Solar System, take a moment to shake off any holiday season stress with this little exercise:
Sit comfortably and take a deep, deep breath as if it were lifting you up. Exhale out heaviness. Repeat one more time.
Now as you breathe in and out, envision what makes you feel truly “successful”? What does “success” genuinely mean to you? What does it look like? Feel like?
Set your intention for our new version of FOMO- Feat of Manifesting Overachievement. What does shooting for the moon mean to you?
With the next big inhale, take in this intention like you’re forming a ball of wishes and dreams and light and shimmer inside your chest, and then when you exhale send it out into the world.
Doesn’t that feel wonderful? Believe in yourself and your wishes will come true…
and it might take difficult decisions to knock down the obstacles in your way.

✨ Jeffrey Marsh ✨

Jeffrey Marsh at the WORT Radio station, Madison, WI, with Vicki Kenyon and Wa’am.
If my little exercise above didn’t help as much as you’d like, perhaps you’d prefer the calming, healing, loving energy of Jeffrey Marsh. They have an incredible podcast, inspirational and infectious TikTok channel, and a couple best-selling books.
I’ll say this over and over again, it was beyond amazing spending time with Jeffrey on National Coming Out Day. My hearts healed some wounds within minutes of sitting near them and absorbing their voice.
✨ Nico Lang ✨
Nico Lang, National award-winning journalist and author of best-selling book, American Teenager, dropped into Madison like a shooting star. They were on fire, bright, and determined to make an impact on behalf of all the trans kids they interviewed across the nation. I was lucky enough to interview them for the Queery radio show for WORT Radio, and it just aired before Thanksgiving.
Give it a listen (if only because I spent over five hours editing our interview down to 27 minutes). 😊 Seriously though, if you need a burst of passion, energy, and purpose, this half hour radio episode will douse you with it.

✨ Heidi Duss ✨
Heidi Duss has been growing the OPEN Foundation from pure passion and determination for five years.
As she said in a recent announcement:
When I started with OPEN — and later founded the OPEN Foundation — my hope was to create a space where LGBTQIA+ professionals could connect, learn, and thrive. Together, we’ve done just that.
Over the past five years, we’ve:
Built a safe, affirming online platform now 150+ members strong — with corporate partners supporting their employees in joining and finding a welcoming space to network, connect, and grow.
Established signature programs like the LGBTQ+ Career Fair and Transform, supporting trans and gender-expansive individuals as they gain confidence and advance in their careers.
Formed meaningful partnerships with dozens of employers and community organizations throughout Dane County.
Expanded visibility and amplified leaders in our community — creating spaces for belonging and empowerment.
Strengthened our organizational foundation with clear processes and sustainable systems.
Partnered with the Center for Community Stewardship as our fiscal sponsor — gaining invaluable guidance and accountability.
Hired consultants and partnered with UW–Madison and Edgewood College to offer impactful internship and learning opportunities.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together — and deeply grateful for everyone who has shown up, supported, and believed in this mission.
As OPEN moves into its next phase, I’m thrilled to share that Laura Paisley Beck will be stepping into leadership. Laura has been an integral part of our work for years — an entrepreneur, innovator, and advocate who shares OPEN’s vision for inclusive and sustainable growth. Among other things, Laura writes queer books, consults inclusive businesses, and hosts the Be the Glitter Podcast, where LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC voices shine.
Join us in celebrating everything OPEN Foundation has accomplished, the passing of the torch, and the ever-impactful future.
When We Wish Upon A Star… To Be a Star
Has it sunk in yet? We are all capable of wondrous accomplishments.
My senior high school newspaper designated me as The Most Likely To Be The Next Phyllis Diller. At the time I was so offended. I’m trying to remember why. And I think I assumed that she got attention for pure entertainment’s sake, and here all I dreamt of was being a world-traveling journalist for National Geographic, helping educate people on beautiful cultures. So serious!
Now I'd be honored to show up anywhere near the level of any of these stars’ influence, sharing impactful authentic LGBTQIA+ stories with the addition of infectious laughter, color, and volume. 😃
And seriously, let’s go big. Let’s go for big social impact. Even if we aim for world peace and land somewhere in ending trans violence… I’ll take it.
Sending you lots of love,
Laura
PS- I keep forgetting to sell anything I do, so here are some ways in which your dollar helps me help others:
